1hr 18m 27s (average 8.96 metres per second)

The wheelchair record was set by Ernst Van Dyk in the 2004 Boston Marathon. Wheelchair athletes are slower on average than their able-bodied counterparts in races up to 800 m but from then on the record times of wheelchair athletes tend to be faster.
