Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar (The God Of Cricket) born 24 April 1973 is a former Indian cricketer and captain, widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time. He took up cricket at the age of eleven, made his Test debut on 15 November 1989 against Pakistan in Karachi at the age of sixteen.

1. Sachin Tendulkar was named after the great musician Sachin Dev Burman. Sachin's father Ramesh Tendulkar, was a big fan of SD's music.

2. Sachin Tendulkar fielded for Pakistan as a substitute during a one-day practice match against India at the Brabourne Stadium in 1988.

3. Holds a record for a 664-run partnership with former India player, Vinod Kambli, during an inter-school game in 1988.

4. On debut he scored centuries in all three major domestic first-class tournaments: Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Irani Cup.

5. Before the age of 20 he had already scored five Test centuries which is a world record.

6. Tendulkar was the first player to be given out by the third umpire in an international game 1992.

7.  He became the first sportsperson ever to be awarded the honorary rank of Group Captain by Indian Air Force.

8. Sachin Tendulkar is India's first active cricketer that time to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha.

9. In October 1995, Sachin became the richest cricketer when he signed a five-year contract worth Rs 31.5 crore with World Tel.

10. Sachin Tendulkar uses a very heavy bat at the crease, weighing 3.2lbs. Only South Africa`s Lance Klusener used a heavier bat in world cricket.

11. Sachin Tendulkar was without a bat contract until the start of the 1996 Cricket World Cup. At the end of the tournament, a famous tyre manufacturer sponsored his willow.
